Kadugannawa Ambalama

The historic Ambalama (travellers rest) at Kadugannawa pass which had been in a dilapidated condition and on the verge of collapse for a long time was restored and given a face lift recently. The Kadugannawa Ambalama is said to have been built during the reign of King Sri Wickremerajasinghe. It had been the most popular rendezvous of traders who transported goods by cart from Colombo to Kandy and the travelers journeying through hard terrain in the early 19th century, when motor vehicles were still unknown. The continued requests made by residents of the area and the lovers of heritage buildings to restore the popular Rest and conserve the historic building seems to have borne fruit.
