Height : | 20 meters |
District : | Nuwara Eliya |
To get to this 20m-high fall, which is 21km from Kitulgala, take the Nuwara Eliya highway for 3km to Karalina Estate. A clear view of the fall is afforded from both Norton Bridge Road and High Level Road. The source of the fall is the Mahaweli River, which is located 5km southeast of Ginigathena, near the Norton Bridge junction, towards the top of Karalina Estate.
Water flowing over rock formations and narrow valleys supplements the Mahaweli River, which flows in front of a pyramid-shaped mountain.
A mini Hydro Scheme built above Diyagalla Ella Falls has diverted the water from the stream. Therefore this waterfall is lost except during periods of heavy rains.
Far left of the above picture is the waterfall. The steam next to it is the overflow water from the mini-hydro project. This waterfall can completely go dry during dry periods due to this mini hydro power plant which taps into this water stream. You can see the pipelines of this plant on the right.
