This is a small waterfall lying above the famous Diyaluma Waterfall in on the Beragala – Wellawaya Road. This fall is known by many names such as “Punchi Diyaluma Ella”, Kuda Diyaluma Ella”, “Ihala Diyaluma Ella”, “Uda Diyaluma Ella” and “Upper Diyaluma Falls”.
The height of the fall is said to be about 30 meters (unconfirmed) and consists of 7 cascades. The fall lies in a remote location not frequent by visitors and is accessible from the Koslanda Poonagala Road. From the main road, you will need to hike about 1 km along footpaths to reach this fall. This footpath continues to the top of the main Diyaluma Falls.
Ihala Diyaluma Falls (Upper Diyaluma Falls) has become a popular destination for camping recently. However this a dangerous adventure as wild elephants come to this area in the evenings and nights for a drink. Also, mountain leopards are found in this area. In May 2023, a 23-year-old girl was mauled to death by a wild elephant in the night while sleeping inside a tent near the fall. The partner barely survived the attack to tell the story.

Travel Directions to Ihala Diyaluma Ella Falls
from the point where Koslanda Road meets Poonagala Road, turn right and travel about 500 meters to reach the footpath which leads to the top of the Diyaluma Falls. Kuda Diyaluma can be seen on this footpath.
