To reach this 83m high Dotulu Ella Fall, travel from Halwatura Kelle Tea House for 1km, to the west of the Bambaragala area. It is also possible to view the fall from the east, 2km away, on a 900m slope.

The route is through difficult jungle terrain and should not be undertaken without a local guide. The Kitulgala rest-house is 25km away.

Dotulu Ella Fall is the first waterfall in the Eli Hatha Waterfall Chain. The second fall is called Ran Dotulu Ella. The balance 5 waterfalls are called respectively by their number.  This chain of waterfalls is created by a series of drops in the Naya Ganga (river) on the western side of the Sri Pada Reserve. This waterfall chain can be seen on the way to Maliboda, a traditional village on the border of the reserve.

Coming from Deraniyagala to Maliboda, this waterfall chain can be seen when you pass the hamlets of Pothdenikanda and Nindagama.
