Height :50 meters
District :Nuwara Eliya

This 50m fall is borne of the Kotalitula Mountain’s (2015m) Pomurulla Oya (MacDonald River). British author Samuel Baker, who wrote Eight Years in Ceylon-London 1854, described the ‘V’-shaped fall as cascading to a dark suspense filled gorge that measures up to 127m. He added that: ‘The deluge gives a frightening noise’. During colonial times, the surrounding plain was a favoured hunting ground for sambur deer, but the animal has unfortunately long since disappeared from here.

The Uva Panagama MacDonald Fortress is situated just 8km away. To reach Perawella Falls in the Nuwara Eliya District, travel to the end of the Uduvahara to Perawella road, and turn onto the footpath, where after 400m it can be found.

The marker on the Google Map below points to the Perawella area in general and not the exact place. Please see the directions.
