This 60 meter “Yaka Andu Ella” ( Yaka Handu Ella)  fall is one of many falls in the Sri Pada range and can be seen above the Japanese Peace Pagoda in Sri Pada route through Nallatanniya.

The fall flows over a rock surface lying at about 60 degree angle.

The name of the waterfall literally translates in to ‘crying demon fall’ in English. Folklore talks of a powerful Demon King who ruled this area when the Buddha visted Sri Pada and left his footprint, cried so hard for losing out the land to Buddha, it created this waterfall from the tears. Thus it was called “Yaka Andu Ella” ( Yaka Handu Ella)
