Angamuwa Wewa is another medium-scale irrigation reservoir built during the Anuradhapura kingdom. The tank lies in Rajanganaya close to its much larger brother of Rajanganaya Wewa.

It is believed that this area was a populated commercial city called Mahadeegawapa in the ancient past and a regional king called Mahanaga along with one of his ministers called Ahala built the Angamuwa Wewa reservoir and the revenue was donated to a temple called Ahala – Pawatha ( Asela Parwatahaya) which is now known as the Andigala Rajamaha Viharaya.

Angamuwa Wewa is built by damming the Lunu Oya, which is a tributary of Kala Oya. The embankment is 10 meters high and about 1.8 km long. The tank can hold 13.5 mn cubic meters of water. The excess water from the tank flows over the spill and joins Lunu Oya again. The tank irrigates about 2000 acres of paddy fields.

The tank is an ideal place for birdwatching.
