Travelling from Trincomalee on the A35 route towards Parantan, just before crossing the Nandikadal Lagoon causeway at Vadduvakal is a road to the seaside which will lead to  Mullaitivu Sri Samudragiri Rajamaha Viharaya.  Built on an ancient temple complex probably built thousands of years ago, the only significant ruin in this temple is an un-preserved ancient stupa which looks like a mound of earth to the naked eye.

Vadduvaka causeway is the only point which connects the Mullaitivu and Puthukkudiyiruppu through the lagoon. During the final stages of the final Humanitarian Operation by the Sri Lankan Army to rescue over 100,000 Tamil civilians being used as a Human shield by the LTTE Terrorists, this causeway played a major role which was destroyed by the LTTE to stop the advancing Army.
