Legend states that Siyagul Rajamaha Viharaya got its name since this was the 100th temple built by King Dutugemunu. The temple lies 3.8 km from Randeniwela Junction on the Ella Wellawaya road. Take the by road near the Monument of Randeniwela Battle which connects to the Pelwatta -Passara road. Traveling 3.8 km on this road you will reach the temple by the road.

Lying in the middle of a remote village with minimal resources, the temple is dilapidated. At the temple, you will see an ancient Bodhi tree and underneath it, an unrestored ancient stupa covered with scrub and almost resembling a mound of earth.
