Seemapauwa Aranya Senasanaya is an ancient forest monastery in the village known as Usgala in Angunakolapalessa on the Kalthota – Thanamalwila Road. Based on the inscriptions found at this site, it has been found that this site has been in existence for 1-2 centuries even before Christ. It is believed that this has been an active Buddhist center during or around the rule of of King Wattagamini Abaya (104-101 BC), better known as King Walagamba.
The temple lies bordering a massive jungle of about 25 acres which is said to consist of various ancient artifacts as per the article below.
