Veheragala Viharaya at Rambe is an ancient cave temple complex site on which a new temple has been built. Built surrounding a massive rock, its natural caves which had been used in ancient times had been used to build the new buildings.
At the bottom of the rock lies the new temple buildings built using drip ledge caves. You can climb to the top of the rock which gives a spectacular view of the surrounding area. The ancient bricks strewn across the flat surface of the rock is an indication that there have been several buildings and most probably a stupa at the top of the rock at some time. Other than the scattered bricks, no other proof lies of its ancient structures.
