Driving past the picturesque road to Horton Plains from Nuwara Eliya, just as you pass Kande Ela reservoir you will come across the Kande Ela Forest Park (aka Kande Ela Forest Garden), a forested area developed for education purposes by the Department of Forest Conservation.

Located at a height of over 1900m above sea level,  the park has a circular walking path of about 1.5 km where you will be educated on various aspects of re-forestation, planting trees, logging, weaving industry, village life, chena cultivation, etc. in different segments.

The path is through a thick forest covered with life-size replicas of people and buildings. The full walk through though would take about 1 – 1.5 hours. If you manage to get a person from the office to walk with you, you will be able to identify unique trees and plants in the park.

Don’t expect a lot from this forest park other than a nice hike through the Forrest, but talking to an officer at the park, she was quite interested
