Moragahapallama is a small agricultural village off Inginiyagala. Although almost all the villages and towns in this area are settlements developed along with the Senanayake Samudraya scheme, the whole of Ampara District was once a part of the Digamadulla Sub Kingdom which had been flourishing since the 4th century BC reaching its peak in the 2nd century BC under the rule of prince Saddhatissa (brother of king Dutugemunu).

Sri Suvisuddharamaya Viharaya in Moragahapallama is built upon an ancient temple complex which had been destroyed with time. This temple lies about 11 kilometres off the Inginiyagala Dam along the road on the left canal of Senanayake Samudraya. Along the route to Suvisuddharamaya (six kilometres down the road), you will also come across Padagoda Rajamaha Viharaya, another protected archaeological site with an ancient stupa and other ruins of ancient buildings.

The drip ledge cave of the temple was declared a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 26th December 2014, and describes the location as follows ;

“Drip ledged cave at the premises of Sri Suvusudhdharmara Vihara, Moragahapallama situated in Grama Niladhari Division, Moragahapallama in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Damana in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (Latitude 07º20´ 85.4´´ N and longitude 81º60´ 62.9´´ E).”
