Kolamunna Sri Sugatharamaya Purana Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple with a Tampita Viharaya belonging to the Kandyan era. The temple lies between Narammala and Wariyapola, about 17km from Narammala and 13 km off Wariyapola. From Wariyapola take the Kurunegala road for 5.7 km until you reach the Kalugamuwa Junction. From here take the Wariyapola road and travel for 10 km where you will find a small notice board directing you to a narrow road on the left to Sri Sugatharama Viharaya. This road lies 11 km from Wariyapola. The temple lies 1 km down this road.
A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on a number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. The walls inside the chamber are more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.
The Tampita Viharaya at Kolamunna Sri Sugatharamaya Purana Viharaya is built on 8 granite stumps laid in 2 rows. The entrance to the image house is through a wooden flight of steps. A circumambulating path is built around the image house protected by a half-height wall. The path is narrow except at the front. Wooden pillars around the path hold the roof tiled with flat clay tiles typical of roofs built during the Kandyan kingdom. The entrance to the image house is plain and lacks statues or paintings. The outer wall too lacks any murals. These may have been lost over time. The door frame is built in the form of Sooryawanka. This Tampita Viharaya has been restored in 2009-2010 after a long period of neglect.
