Thalawattegedara Kaluhendiwela Mayurawathi Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple with a Tampita Viharaya belonging to the Kandyan era. The temple lies about 9 km from Polgahawela. To reach the temple from Polgahawela, travel 3 km towards Kurunegala up the Kandewatte Ela junction. Take the Wadakada road from here and travel for 2.5 km upto Udapola junction. Turn to Thalawattegedara road from here and the temple lies 2 km down this road.

A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Walls inside the chamber is more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.

The Tampita Viharaya at Thalawattegedara Kaluhendiwela Mayurawathi Rajamaha Viharaya is quite small in size and is built on 8 granite stumps. A wooden flight of steps takes you to small porch at the top which directly opens to the image house.  This Tampita Viharaya was declared as a protected archaeological monument on the gazette dated 07th December 2001.
