Medagodawatta Uyanegama Sri Nagabodhi Rajamaha  Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple with a Tampita Viharaya belonging to the Kandyan era. The temple lies about 10 km from Kuliyapitiya and 17 km from Giriulla and 5 km off Kuliyapitiya – Narammala road. To reach the temple from Kuliyapitiya, travel 5 km towards Narammala and take the by lane toward Eluwapola. From Eluwapola Junction (fuel station)  turn left and travel 700 meters.  The temple lies right next to the road.

A Tampita Viharaya is a building constructed on a wooden platform supported by several stone pillars, usually 3-4 feet high. Its roof is supported by a timber structure, and the walls are typically made of wattle and daub. Inside, the chamber walls are often adorned with paintings, primarily in the Kandyan style.

The Tampita Viharaya at Uyanegama is comparatively small with a large mandapa built at the front. The platform is built on 4 stone pillars. Two standing Buddha statues had been built beside the main Samadhi statue on the side walls of the Tampita Vihara Ge. One of these statues has been completely destroyed with only an outline filling the space. The other statue is in comparatively good condition. Beside these two statues lie paintings of deities Saman and Kataragama. These paints are in good condition. The Archaeology Department has started restoration work on this structure but seems to have been halted for no apparent reason.

The Tampita Viharaya (Viharaya built on stone piles) belonging to the Medagodawatte Uyanegama Sri Nagabodhi Purana Viharaya premises situated in the No. 1101 Ketawelegedara Grama Niladhari Division in the Kuliyapitiya West Divisional Secretary’s Division, Kurunegala District was declared as a protected archaeological monument on the gazette dated 24th July 2009.
