‘Maminiyawa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya’ lies just off Maradankadawala Junction towards about 02 km to Habarana from Maradankadawala.

This Temple  is located in front of ‘Maminiyawa Wewa’ which is one of the six biggest reservoirs built by King Mahasen (276-303). Name of this sacred place is mentioned as ‘Surulu Maminiyawa’  in the book  of ‘Nampotha’ which contains the names of ancient temples and fanes (Devale) in Sri Lanka.

A very old standing ‘Stone Statue of Buddha’ seen here is also said the be carved during the reign of King Mahasen (276-303). Further it seems that this statute has  higher historical & archeological value .

Other small statues of Buddha, a standing statue of Mithree Bodhisathwa  and a nice statue of Vishnu Dewa can be seen in this temple. The very old Slab Inscription and the  ‘Pohoya Geya’ further enhance the historical value of this place.

At present  venerable ‘Kandakkulame Ananda Thero’   is the chief  monk of this temple.
