The ancient stupa of the Buttala Gonaganara Walagamba Purana Viharaya

Walagamba Purana Viharaya in Gonaganara in Buttala is an ancient temple scatted with ruins of the ancient civilization in Rohana area. The temple is hidden deep inside Buttala on the Sella Kataragama road. The turn off to the temple is 14.5 km from Buttala and 25 km off Sella Kataragama. A small board indicate this turn off. The temple lies 1 km on this gravel road.

The main ancient artifact at the temple is the dilapidated stupa now resembling a large mound of earth. The trees has been cleared but no conservation has been carried out.
