Mattagoda Galekade Ambalama lies close to the Ambagahaspitiya and Aweriyawela ambalamas in Gampaha District. An Ambalama is a place constructed for pilgrims, traders and travelers to rest or spend the night in the ancient Sri Lanka. They were built by kings, regional rulers and nobles as a service to the common man.
Mattagoda Galekade Ambalama is a fairly large brick and mortar structure with a inner chamber and a surrounding corridor. Plain square and cylindrical pillars hold the roof. A half height wall is built around the inner chamber with an opening for the entrance at the front. A ledge has been built on two sides of the inner chamber. The roof is tiled with semi cylindrical clay tiles. The ambalama has been renovated recently.
To reach the Ambalama, travel upto Yakkala on Kandy road and take the Radawana road and travel upto Ambagahaspitiya. From Ambagahaspitiya you need to take a left turn and travel about 1 km to reach the ambalama.
