Udakahahena is small village in the hills 16 km off Ibbagamuwa and 30 km off Matale. The Rajamaha Viharaya at the Udakahahena is home to one of the rare Tampita Viharaya in the country.
Tampita Viharaya is a shrine room built on cluster of pillars, mostly stone. However wooden pillars are also found in few rare instances. These structures were popular during the Kandyan era and were used from shrine rooms to devalas to paddy storage units.
This Tampita Viharaya is a two storied building which has been restored by the department archaeology. Unfortunately the tam (pillars) are not visible on this restored building which seems to have been filled with earth and covered.
