Ihala Muruthange Sri Shailabimbarama Rajamaha Viharaya lies in between Kuliyapitiya, Narammala and Dambadeniya It lies 16 km from Kuliyapitiya, 15.5 km from Narammala and 8km from Dambadeniya.
Tampita Vihara was a popular architectural feature during the Kandyan kingdom where the temple was built on a platform which was held on an array of pillars, mostly stone.
The Tampita Viharaya at Ihala Muruthange Sri Shailabimbarama Rajamaha Viharaya is built on a rocky plain. Unfortunately the stone pillars which held the Tampita Viharaya has been all covered with a wall during a later renovation. Therefore this Tampita Viharaya today appears as an normal image house with features belonging to the Kandyan Era. A circumambulating path is found around the inner chamber. This is 1.93 meters wide at the front and 1.14 meters , 1.09 meters wide on the sides and rear respectively. The inner image house is 5.01×3.69 meters in size. The complete building is 7.26×5.87 meters in size.
Inside the inner chamber lies the main seated Buddha statue facing the door. A halo around the Buddha is drawn in typical flame style. A detailed Dragons Arch (Makara Thorana) is molded to the rear wall. Two darkly painted statues probably of deities stand beside the Buddha statue. Two more larger deities painted in yellow are molded beside the darker deities. Two standing Buddha statues are erected on the on the sidewalls. All statues are complete with the head dress as well as the halo around the whole body.
