The Hiruwalpola Tampita viharaya lies on 20 rock pillars 82.5 centimeters tall. A circumambulating path has been built around the inner chamber which is the image house. The front of this path is 1.30 meters wide and the two sides and the rear of the path is 56cm wide, barely enough for a person to walk. The inner chamber (image house) is 3.30 meters long and 2.51 meters wide. The whole structure is 5.16 meters long and 3.63 meters wide.
A mandapa has been built in front connecting to the Tampita structure. This is covered in all sides except for 4 windows on the 2 sides and the wide front entrance. Both this structures have are tiled using the typical flat clay tiles found on buildings from Kandyan era.
