Kahaththewela Ambalama in Bandarawela is a small ancient wayside rest made of brick and mortar hidden away at a corner of temple at the Kahaththewala junction. Due expansions of the adjoining temple, the Amalama was more or less destroyed and only the parts of the wall were remaining by 2012.
In 2013, this ambalama was completely reconstructed and what is seen today is this re constructed building. How much of its original design and architecture had been preserved is not known.
To reach the ambalama, take the Welimada from Bandarawela for 1.4 km to reach St Thomas Junction. just before the juction and adjoining Kahaththewela road, there is a new temple called Sri Subodharamaya on the left. The ambalama lies at the end of the temple wall hidden from the road.
