Dapane Sri Jayasumanaramaya Purana Viharaya is an ancient temple with a Tampita Viharaya built during the Kandyan era.  This temple lie 8 km from Urubokka and 9 km from Kella junction on the Suriyakanda – Empilipitiya road.

To reach Watagedara Sri Sudarshanarama Ancient Temple from Matara take the Urubokka, take the Ginnaliya road for 6.2 kms and take the narrower road to the right at the fork. You will also find a concrete board directing you the temple at this fork.  Travel another 1.4 km on this road to reach the temple.

The Tampita Viharaya of Dapane Sri Jayasumanaramaya Purana Viharaya now lies inside a a larger hall which is of a later construction. Once you enter this larger building a small wooden stairway leads in to the Tampita Viharaya. The entrance is flanked by two guardian deities carrying swards. The door frame is painted with creepers primarily using red and yellow colours. The door frame is painted with two wrestlers at the bottom and a ‘Pancha Nari Gataya’ at the top, both which were popular designs in the Kandyan kingdom.

The center piece of the image house is a seated Buddha statue flanked by 2 standing Buddha statues on the sidewalls. A statue of the deity Upulwan (Vishnu), the custodian deity of Sri Lanka and protector of Buddhism, can be seen on one sidewall.

This Tampita Viharaya was declared as a protected archaeological site on 6 July 2007.
