Kivulpana Purana Tampita Viharaya lies between Kegalle and Mawanella. From the junction where the Kegalle bypass road falls on to Kandy road, travel towards Mawanella for 3.2 km to reach the Annasigala junction. Take the road to left from here and travel 2 km on this road to reach this Tampita Viharya.
A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Walls inside the chamber is more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.
This temple on pillars has been destroyed during an attempted renovation. The statues in the temple is now kept separately.
