The source of this 3m-high Kosgahadola Ella Fall is an aquifer in the 2,430 hectares of the Mulatiyana Jungle, Matara District (Hakmana Electorate). Situated in an area that is being destroyed for its natural resources, the fall has managed to escape such a fate, perhaps due to the surrounding impregnable jungle.
It is believed there used to be a monastery at this site and that elephants used to bathe in the pool here. The road leading up to the fall can be found near the Mulatiyana junction on the Matara – Marawala road.
Kosgahadola is a village belonging to Mulatiyana Divisional Secretariat in Matara District. Kosgahadola is popular for its waterfall also called Kosgahadola Ella. This waterfall and the Kosgahadola Bubula on the same stream somewhat close to each other.
This is a popular waterfall in the area. If you are coming from Matara to visit Kosgahadola Falls and Bubula, you will come through Thihagoda, Kamburupitiya, Makandura, Mulatiyana. If traveling from Galle, you should come to Makandura through Akuressa and to Mulatiyana. Also The site is located 2.3 kms down the Kotapola road. A short footpath to has been built towards the waterfall along with an observation platform.
