A little beyond Hanguranketa along the Rikillagaskada road is the  Madanwela Viharaya whose history, tradition, has it goes back to a few centuries. In this as well as the Morapaya Viharaya a few miles further away are two gold plated images of the Buddha which tradition says were brought by Maliyadeva Thera. The image at Morapaya Viharaya is a standings Buddha 23 inches high.

According the this report the the temple faced a land slide and was buried in the early part of 17th century and the statue was lost. Later it was discovered by two merchants and has been resorted back at the temple.
