Sri Nagarukkaramaya Purana Tampita Viharaya at Medagama, Algama lies about 1 km away from the Algama town. Algama can be reached from Pasyala if traveling from Colombo. Alternatively you can reach the temple from Danovita on Kandy road by taking the Horagasmankada – Algama road for 5.5 kilometers.
A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Walls inside the chamber is more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.
This Tampita Viharaya is listed in the book” Sri Lankawe Tampita Vihara” by Kusumsiri Wijayawardhana. No further information is available.
