The Maskeliya stream flows from the 1810m-high Sri Pada Reserve, creating the fall in the southeastern section of the Fairlawn Estate. It cascades down a 4m rock face, in the process creating several pools.
The fall is 24km from Dikoya. Travel 11km from Norwood to Alukotte or 8km from Maskeliya to Alukotte.
There are motorable estate roads up to the waterfall itself. From Dr Eberhard Kautzsch’s “A Guide to Waterfalls of Sri Lanka”; “There is a country road from Norwood to Upcot (11 km) and another one from Maskeliya to Upcot (Samimale) (8 km). From Upcot leads a motorable estate road along the Maskeliya Oya to Mariacotta (Meeriacotte) (4 km) and the waterfall”
Close to the waterfall, there is a small footpath towards the waterfall from the estate road. Although this waterfall is listed as a 4-meter-high waterfall, it falls in 3 segments which together would be at least 15 meters in height.
LCWF lists this waterfall as in Ratnapura District. This is a mistake and the waterfall lies in Fairlawn Estate in Nuwara Eliya.
