Hakgedi Ella Falls is a small waterfall which is probably about 3 meters tall lying in the rural village of the Porambakananke on the Galle – Akkuressa Road. The source of this fall is Polathu Ganga. The area in which the fall is located is called Kumarawatte/ Harambawatte.

Although small in size, this fall is surrounded by many folklore.

It is said that a Hakgedi (a conches shell) and a pot were carved on a large rocky surface near a pool of water in the fall. It is said that a treasure belonging to an ancient king is hidden beneath this pool.

This treasure is protected by an eel with golden earrings from water and and large cobra from the land.

According to folklore, the regional king had his castle in the Kandewatte area lying close by and the prince used to come this fall to bathe. Therefore area was known as Kumarawatte ( prince’s garden). The prince is also said to have learned his fighting skills in this area so this was also known as Harambawatte. It is said that the remains of this castle are still can be seen.
