Deraniyagala – Noori Road is dotted with many waterfalls, Some known and many un named and unknown. The Watawala Ella Falls is one small but extremely wide waterfall known only by the locals flowing unseen away from the Noori Road.
Watawala Ella consists of two sections which cannot be viewed from one place. Travel along the Noori Road approximately 22 km till it reaches a folk. The road to the left will take you towards Keerihena and Noori. Traveling 200-300 meters along this road will bring you to the bridge across Watawala Oya. There is a foot path upstream along the left bank which would take one towards this beautiful cascade of Watawala.
Continuing on this path towards Noori number of waterfalls can be visited. See the map below for the rest of the waterfall along this route.
The LCWF database lists a Watawala Fall as a 40m waterfall in Ratnapura District. This is a different waterfall but the Deraniyagala Watawala Ella Falls is not listed here.
