Wedisagiri Aranyaya, Sanghappalaya, in Wannikudawewa, is an ancient aramic complex lying in the Galgamuwa area in Kurunegala District, with a large number of ruined buildings and statues spread over the whole forest monastery. It is believed that Queen Kavisala Pali, the mother of Kuveni lived here and was home to an army general called Giribaara at a later date.
According to the Manawe Wimalarathne Maha Thero, who said to have read the inscriptions at Sanghappalaya Wedisagiri Aranyaya, Queen Kavisala Pali heard from a merchant from India who had come to trade with a priest who had achieved the Rahath status at this place.
She met with him and listening to his sermons reached the Sovan status. Then her husband, Kuveni’s father prepared a cave for her to meditate. Later, Kuveni’s two children too had entered the priesthood and meditated with their grandmother.
The Hermitage lies on top of a rocky hill and consists of 6 ancient caves, a ruined dagoba, a number of ponds including Kema’s and a large number of granite statues destroyed by treasure hunters.
The address of the temple is Wedisagiri Arannya. Sanghappalaya, Wannikudawewa, Galgamuwa.
