Piyangala Chitralena (cave of frescoes) is a huge cave with ancient Veddha paintings lying close the the Piyangala Forest Hermitage. An archaeology department board just before the turn-off to the Pulukunava Raja Maha Viharaya directs you to this majestic cave. The cave lies about 100 meters away from the road.
Locals call this “Nagas” cave because a terrorist called “Nagas” was found dead there, after being shot by the military.
