Nuwaragala Sugaladevi Viharaya is an ancient temple complex in Dehiattakandiya. To reach this temple you need to travel 14 km from the Dimbulagala Rajamaha Viharaya towards Dehiattakandiya. From here, take the right turn to Pallegama and you need to travel a further 6.5 km on this road to reach this temple lying on a rocky plateau.
The well-preserved Sri Pathul Gala (footprint of Buddha) and the large “Asana” rock slab which were both objects of worship before the birth of Buddha Statues in the second century, place this temple in the pre-Christian era or in the 1st century.
