Putupagala Ambalama lies in the village of Putupagala in the Gampaha District. This ambalama is believed to have been built by King Weeraparakrama (1477 – 1489) of the Kotte kingdom. It is believed that this ambalama would have served as a resting place for pilgrims who travelled from Kotte to the Dekatana Keragala Rajamaha Viharaya.

The ambalama is said to have been decorated using finely polished stone blocks.

This ambalama had been located at the Putupagala Junction. According to villagers this ambalama had existed till recently and had been used during Wesak and Poson full moon poya days to carry out Dansala for the pilgrims traveling to the Ancient Keragala Padmavathi Rajamaha Viharaya.

Unfortunately, one member of the Dompe Pradesheeya Sabha had demolished this ambalama and the finely cut stone blocks had been taken away to his home while some are still lying on the Pradesheeya Sabha premises. One small businessman having a tea shop at the junction had brought back some of the stone blocks and had built a small Buddha Shrine in the location. The stones which were used to build this ambalama can still be seen at this shrine thanks to this gentleman.
