Mahawaththa Ambalama (Mahawatta Ambalama) is an ancient wayside rest in Algama lying in Medawaththta (Medawatta) area on the Algama – Horagasmankada road. Made of brick and mortar, the ambalama is rectangular in shape and built on seven square pillars and 2 cylindrical pillars which acts at the entrance pillars. The roof is tiled with clay calicut tiles (rata ulu) which is probably a new addition during a recent renovations.
To reach the ambalama take the Horagasmankada Road from Algama and travel for 2.6 kilometers (4 km from Horagasmankada junction if coming from other end) to find the Ambalama right next to the road.
