The ruins of the ancient Buddhist monastery which lies in the area known as Paranapansalwatta in  Muwapetigewela was declared as a protected archaeological monument by the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location of as follows ;

“Ancient Buddhist monastery complex with places containing ruins of buildings including stone pillars at the place of (Latitude 07º 41′ 42.5” N and longitude 081º 06′ 33.4” E) called Parana Pansal watta in Muwapetigewela village situated in Grama Niladhari Division No. 142/N, Kadirapura in the Divisional Secretary’s Division Dehiaththakandiya in Ampara District in Eastern Province.”
