The drip ledge cave complex in Kossapola has been declared a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows ;
“Drip ledged cave complex belonging to Kossapola village situated in the Grama Niladhari Division No. W/86/E, Wavinna South in the Divisional Secretary’s Division Ampara in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (latitude 07º 14′ 32.5” N and longitude 081º 35′ 22.6”E).”
Based on the GPS location mentioned above, the caves lie in the Wavinna Mangalarama Viharaya premises on the Ampara Inginiyagala Road.
