Radella is a remote village lying close to the Heda Oya River in Panama belonging to the Lahugala Divisional Secretary area in Ampara District.
A rock plain on the route to the Radella Reservoir has been declared as a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows ;
“Rock plain with archaeological evidence at the place of latitude 06º 81631′ N and longitude 081º 76604′ E in Radella village in Grama Niladari Division No. PP 04 Panama North in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Lahugala in Ampara District in Eastern Province”
GPS location is marked based on the above description. However, it is recommended to get more information and directions before attempting to visit the place. It is very unlikely that you would get any assistance in locating this site from the predominately non-buddhist villagers who would prefer to see such sites disappear.
