The Slab Inscription of Bathalagoda lies on the bunt of the Bathalagoda Reservoir in Ibbagamuwa.
The inscription was made in the 13th century on the 5th year of Queen Kalyaniwathi (1202-1208) of Polonnaruwa Kingdom. An Adhikari called Chudamani of Bandhalagoda region has repaired a breached sluice gate of the Batalagoda Reservoir and in addition, built a second sluice. He has also renovated a nearby dilapidated and uninhabited temple of a pirivena (a learning centre for bhikkus) called Senevirath Pirivena built by a Lakvijaya Sansingu. He had also repaired the residential quarters of the bhikkus, re-established the pirivena and donated harvest from four amounts from one of his paddy fields to the temple. The inscription also states that persons who defy these orders will be reborn crows and dogs in their next lives.
