Yataththawala Bodhiwansaramaya Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple belonging to the era of the Dambadeniya kingdom with a Tampita Viharaya belonging to the Kandyan Era. The temple lies between Madampe and Narammala and 9 km off Kuliyapitiya. To reach the temple from Kuliyapitiya, travel 2 km towards Narammala to reach Laduyaya junction. Take the  Labuyaya Koshagamula road for about 5 km and take the left fork at the Koshagamula Junction. The temple lies about 3 km away from this junction.

A Tampita Viharaya is a structure built on a wooden platform which rests on number of stone stumps usually 3-4 feet tall. The roof is held by a structure built of timber and the walls are generally made of wattle and daub. Walls inside the chamber is more or less always covered in paintings drawn mainly in Kandyan style.

The Tampita Viharaya in Yataththawala Bodhiwansaramaya Rajamaha Viharaya lies on 6 granite pillars. This is connected to a fully enclosed Hevisi Mandapaya building at the front. The steps to the Tampita Viharaya lies at the end of the Hevisi Mandapaya.

One interesting fact of this temple is the paintings beside the main Buddha statue in the Tampita Viharaya. Generally you would find Sun and the Moon symbols or deities in painted form or high relief form on the top half of the walls beside the statue. But here you would see two pendulum clocks painted beside the Buddha statue. The first clock shows 9.08 and the second, 7.22. The year 1898 is painted on one clock along with the name of the artist.

This Tampita Viharaya along with the Hevisi Mandapaya was declared as an protected archaeological monument by the gazette dated 24th July 2009 and describes it as follows ;

“The Tampita Image House (Image House built on stone piles) and Hewisi Mandapaya belonging to the Yataththawela Bodhiwansarama Purana Viharaya premises situated in No. 532 Yataththawela Grama Niladhari Division in the Pannala Divisional Secretary’s Division, Kurunegala District, North Western Province.”
