Pallegama is located in the Harispattuwa Divisional Secretariat. Pallegama Ambalama is located adjacent to the Pallegama Thalawa paddy fields. This fertile field of more than 60 acres has been cultivated for two seasons since the time of the ancient kings but today these fields have become barren due to lack of water.
To reach this Ambalama you have to travel 4 km on the Katugastota road from Getambe in Kandy, turn to Jayanthi Mawatha and travel 1.2 km on this road to Pallegama Thalawa paddy fields.
If you are going on this journey to Pallegama Ambalama do not forget to visit the Sellavali Rajamaha Viharaya in the middle of the paddy field. This is also known as the Welamada Viharaya. Situated in a beautiful setting, this temple houses a magnificent image house from the Kandyan period. Instead of the usual halo around the Buddha statue which is built on a pedestal, the statue is seated on a coil of a cobra with its head in place of the halo. In addition, this image house looks like an art gallery of the Kandy period.
