Ambareli Tampita Rajamaha Viharaya – අඹරැලි ටැම්පිට රජමහා විහාරය
Ambareli Tampita Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient temple complex built on a rocky outcrop in Hinguru Wewa area between Galewela and Kekirawa. It is said that the Tampita Viharaya of this temple is the tallest in the country. Tampita Vihara were a popular architectural feature of temples during the Kandyan era. Such structures are made of timber built on top of granite stumps with wooden platform laid across the stumps.
Scattered ruins all over the area indicate that the history of the this temple goes back to the Anuradhapura era. The Tampita Viharaya is a addition during the Kandyan era and now it acts as a popular devale for the people in the surrounding area. A preaching hall has been built surrounding this structure and the Tampita Viharaya acts as the second floor of this building.
