Amunugama lies few kilometers off Madawala in Kandy district. This amblalama at Amunugama has been built over 100 years ago and is believed to be used by pilgrims traveling from Digana, Theldeniya, Menikhinna and Kundasale area on the way to Temple of Tooth in Kandy and its annual Esala Perahera (procession).  This ambalama is a small square structure open from all sides with short walls, high enough to function as a bench. The roof is held by four brick pillars.

With the development of road network and public transport, Amabalama’s went in to gradually being disused and neglected. The same has happened to this structure and now lies next to a paddy field covered in shrubs and vines.

To reach this ambalama, travel on the Madawala road from Lewella. Turn right at Amunugama Bus Stand onto Amunugama – Walala Rd and travel 450 meters though paddy fields. The structure lies at the far edge of the paddy fields. See map below for the exact location.
