Hulannuge is a village situated along the Siyambalanduwa – Lahugala Road. Heda Oya flows through Hulannuge feeding the paddy fields of the village.

A site with ruins of granite pillars on the bank of Heda Oya close to the ancient stone anicut has been declared a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014 and describes the location as follows

“Site of ruins with stone pillars near “Heda Oya” in Hulannuge village situated in Grama Niladari Division No. PP 12 in the Grama Niladari Division in the Divisional Secreary’s Division, Lahugala in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (latitude 06º 89073′ N and longitude 081º 64594′)”

Another protected archaeological site with ancient granite pillars and stone slabs in the area is known as the Hedaoya Yaya in Nugawela village. Based on the GPS coordinates given in the gazette, this site too lies on the same route a little before the Heda Oya in the middle of paddy fields (see the map below and zoom out to see the location). This site is described in the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014 as follows;

“The site with hillocks covered by stone pillars and stone plates situated in the area called “Hedaoya yaya” in Nugewewa village in Hulannuge Kandahindagama Grama Niladari Division in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Lahugala in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (latitude 06º 89592′ N and longitude 081º 64335′ E).”
