From Kegalle take the Polgahawela road for about 5 km and then turn off at the Devalagama junction to the Pussalla by road for about 500 meters to reach the Jeewana Rajamaha Viharaya.
The pillars of Tampita Vihara are usually 3-4 feet high. But due to the height of the pillars in this Tampita temple, its lower part is used as a basement. A roof has been added surrounding the pillars of the Tampita temple to protect the basement.
The entrance to the temple is through a wooden door. The upper cross bar of the door frame is decorated with a carving of a Narilatha at the center with flowers leaf carvings on the sides. At the base of the doorposts is a carved dancer holding a bouquet of flowers.
Mr F. H. Pryce has made the following note in his diary on March 28, 1886 about Jeevana.
At Jivana there is a picturesque flight of 168 stone steps, said to have been built long ago by a priest who lived on the summit of the hill. reminded me of Mihintale. Made a detour at Waragoda on the way back to visit a ruined viharaya, which has not been used for some generations. The villagers who cut the way up to it declared that neither they nor anybody else (in their recollection) had ever been up to it previously. It is a rock temple, but contains nothing of interest beyond its odour of antiquity.
