Katuaththamada is a small village on the road to Ankumbura from Matale in Matale District. An Ambalama is a place constructed for pilgrims, traders and travelers to rest or spend the night in the ancient Sri Lanka. They were built by kings, regional rulers and nobles as a service to the common man.

Katuaththamada Ambalama at Matale is a small ambalama made out of rock and mortar. The building is square in its plan and four large pillars hold the roof made of Calicut clay tiles (Rata Ulu). It seems that this Ambalama along with the roof has been renovated recently. The pillars are built using granite blocks held together by cement and carries no artwork. A half height wall is built around the building with an opening for the entrance at the front. This buildings doesn’t display any architectural features commonly found on ambalamas of the Kandyan era. Therefore this was possibly built during the British era with the introduction of tea plantations to the region.

To reach this ambalama, travel towards Ankumbura from Matale. The structure lies on the 15th hairpin bend (Welamiti Wanguwa) after turning on to the Ovilikanda Road.
