Narampanawa is a small town in Kandy District just above Teldeniya on the banks of Hulu Ganga. The Narampanawa Ambalama lies underneath a temple tree on the edge of a picturesque paddy field along the road from Oruthota.
The building is a square brick and mortar structure with a short but wide wall connecting the pillars which also serves as a bench. A wooden frame lying on the four pillars carry the roof. The edges of the beams of this frame carry only carvings (Gonas) in the building. The roof was covered with corrugated tin roofing sheets in 2017, a later renovation carried out without consideration to its antiquity. However a proper restoration has been carried out after this and now (2021) the roof is tiled with semi cylindrical clay tiles (sinhala ulu) with a proper clay pinnacle, a typical design of Ambalama during the Kandyan era.
To reach this Ambalama, travel to Oruthota through Kundasale and take the Narampanawa road which lies just before the bridge over Huluganga.
