The Ulpange or the Queen’s Bathing Pavilion is situated partly in the waters of the Kandy Lake and the other part on land near the Temple of the Tooth Relic. This was part of the palace complex of the last king, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe and as the name implies it was used by the queens for bathing. After the British invading forces captured the city, this was converted into a library and today this building has become a police post.

The Ulpange had been constructed in 1806 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe to serve as the bathing chambers of the queens. Three sides of this building is bounded by the Kandy Lake. The upper floor of the building has been used as the changing rooms for the royals and the ground floor for bathing. The arches supported by columns admit sunlight to the lake at the ground level.
