Akuloba is a remote farming village close to the newly built Rambaken Oya reservoir. Buddhist ruins of the ancient Digamadulla kingdom have been found on a hillock in Akuloba village. Ruins including a stupa, granite pillars and many other archaeological artefacts have been discovered spread over an area.

Access to Akuloba is from Borapola on the Ampara – Mahaoya Road.  Take to by road opposite to the Borapola Vidyalaya which will take you to the village passing the lovely Borapola Reservoir. The  Akuloba hillock was declared a protected archaeological site by the Government in the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows ;

Other archaeological remains with a hillock of ancient Dagoba, ruins of buildings with stone pillars at the area surrounding Akuloba Paddy fields of (Latitude 07º 50116′ N and longitude 081º 38752′ E) belonging to Akuloba village situated in the Grama Niladhari Division, Borapola in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Mahaoya in Ampara District in Eastern Province.
